Introduction

AOS (Alpha-Olefin Sulfonate Sodium)

Alpha-Olefin Sulfonate (AOS) is a high-performance anionic surfactant widely used in laundry detergents, soaps, liquid cleaning products, personal care formulations, and various industrial applications. Known for its excellent detergency, superior foaming, and strong hard-water resistance, AOS delivers outstanding cleaning results even under challenging conditions such as low temperatures and high water hardness.

AOS works synergistically with Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS) in phosphate-free laundry powders, significantly improving stain removal efficiency while reducing ash deposition and protecting textiles. It also exhibits excellent enzyme compatibility, helping maintain higher residual enzyme activity in detergent systems.

In soap formulations, AOS enhances solubility, foam stability, and hard-water resistance, improving bar elasticity and user experience. In liquid detergents, AOS provides low irritation, high biodegradability, and can effectively replace LAS while achieving ideal viscosity through thickener combinations.

In personal care applications, AOS offers mildness close to AES, with rich, creamy foam and a cleansing feel similar to soap-based systems—making it suitable for shampoos, body washes, facial cleansers, and other skincare products, especially those designed for weakly acidic skin environments.
